Belhelvie Community Council

What We Do

Belhelvie Community Council has three main functions:

  1. To represent the views of the community to Aberdeenshire Council and other public bodies.
  2. To promote the wellbeing of the community. This can include organising or assisting with events, supporting local activity groups and promoting environmental improvements.
  3. To hold meetings and provide a point of contact for local residents to voice their opinions on any matter affecting their lives, their welfare, their environment, its development and amenity.

The Community Council is made up of local residents and is attended by the four area Aberdeenshire Councillors. Its meetings are open to the public and are held at various venues throughout the area. Details of the next meeting and copies of the minutes from previous meetings are available on the Council Business page of this website.

The Community Council is non-sectarian and non-party political. It is there to reflect the opinion of the community. It should be recognised that Aberdeenshire Council deals with the business of Planning, Licensing, Roads, Environmental Health etc. and whilst the Community Council can put forward an opinion on any topic the main decision making powers lie with the full Council.

Community Councillors Wanted

Belhelvie Community Council requires at least 8 members to form a chorum for decisions to be made at meetings. There can be up to 15 Community Councillors at any one time and currently there are a few places still to be filled. The role can be very rewarding and does not require any specialist skills. If you would like to become a Community Councillor or would like to see the Community Council in action then please come along to any of our meetings, where you will receive a warm welcome. Please also feel free to call on any of our current Community Councillors and they will be pleased to answer any questions.

To help explain what the Community Council does please have a read through some of the formal documents, below.
