Major Developments
Introduction
The Community Council is officially consulted by Aberdeenshire Council and other public bodies on any major developments within its area. The Council is a consultee on all planning applications and these can be seen either on the Aberdeenshire Council website click here or at Balmedie or Newmachar Libraries. The Council’s duty is to represent the views of the whole community and sometimes has to look at the ‘big picture’ rather than an individual's particular issues.
2010 & 2011 will be particularly exciting years for the area with a selection of potentially major developments:
Local Development Plan
Aberdeenshire Council have reviewed the current Local Plan with a view to replacing it with what will be called a 'Local Development Plan'. The Local Development Plan will provide the local interpretation of national planning guidance, from the Scottish Government, and the Structure Plan for Aberdeen City and Shire. The main consultation period closed on 1 October 2010 and over the next few months all the submissions will be considered.
In January 2011 a list of the issues will be published on Aberdeenshire Council's website.
Objections to the proposed plan will be sent to Scottish Ministers for resolution. They will receive a summary of the issues raised, Aberdeenshire Council's comments and the submission sent to Aberdeenshire Council.
Aberdeeshire Council's Committees will discuss their proposed response during January and February 2011.

Local Groups and individuals have also responded to the proposed Local Development Plan with their own submissions. One area of concern has been the designation of proposed 'Sites for Minerals Nos 48 and 50' and the manner in which this has been done.
A new period of public consultation is underway regarding 'Settlement Statements' for an additional 41 settlements. The consultation period began on 15 October 2010 and will finish at 5pm on 26 November 2010. Written representations to the Addendum should be sent to The Aberdeenshire Planning Policy Team.

Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route
The Northern end of this major road development falls in the Belhelvie area. A major roundabout is to be formed at Blackdog to take traffic from the North of the city to the South, avoiding the city centre. This will be a significant change to the transport infrastructure in the area, for further information click here
Dualling of the A90 Between Balmedie and Tipperty
Since (at least) the early 1980's there have been a number of different proposals for the upgrading of the A90 to dual carriageway between Balmedie and Tipperty. The latest proposal has been underway since 2005 and the new road is schedulled for completion 2012/2013.

Landfill Issues
Over the years large quantities of sand and gravel have been extracted from various sites across the local area. Once the minerals have been extracted the site inevitably converts to a landfill site. Belhelvie Community Council has had concerns raised about one of the Blackdog 'Former' Landfill sites and this is currently under investigation.
Earlier this year the Community Council made representation regarding an application to extend the licence for the Easter Hatton Landfill site.
